A present-day song of ascent inspired by Psalm 122.
Psalms 120-134 are known as the “songs of ascent” and thought to be a collection of Psalms sung by pilgrims as they “ascended” to Jerusalem. Psalm 122 inspired me to write “Be Not Troubled” as a song of ascent for disciples on their journey to the heavenly Jerusalem.
I rejoiced when I heard you say
That in your Father’s house
There are many rooms,
And you prepared one for me.
When times are dark,
You tell me, “Be not troubled,
For I will return
To bring you home.”
In that place,
There will be no more sickness, sorrow, or death;
No crying or pain;
No evil or fear to disturb my soul.
Your light will shine,
Dispelling the night forevermore.
You will make all things new,
Healing all brokenness and loneliness;
Wiping every tear from our eyes.
Then, we will say, “Our God dwells with us
And He calls us His own.”
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Our Savior and our King!
